In the late 1920s, the design of desk lamps underwent a fundamental transformation. The SF 27 desk lamp exemplifies this change: light was no longer simply expected to illuminate a room; it needed to be directed precisely where it was required. Designers such as Christian Dell, Ferdinand Kramer, Marianne Brandt and Édouard-Wilfrid Buquet developed adjustable lamps in which joints, pivots and reflectors became visible elements of the design.
It was within this context that the historical model for the SF 27 was created around 1927. TECNOLUMEN discovered a surviving example in Sweden, although its designer remains unknown. The original surface finishes could no longer be clearly identified either. For its re-edition, TECNOLUMEN therefore developed a combination of materials and colours that emphasises the lamp’s constructive character: the rods and base plate are chrome-plated, while the reflector is finished in black lacquer. The adjustable joints provide a deliberate contrast and are available in either brass or chrome.
The slender construction makes the function of the SF 27 immediately apparent. Its adjustable elements allow the light to be directed with precision – whether used on a desk, as a reading light or to create a focused accent on a side table. Despite its technical character, the lamp remains visually balanced: the black reflector gives the composition a sense of stability, while the chrome-plated rods lend it a clear, almost graphic lightness.
The SF 27 combines the functional design language of classical modernism with practical qualities that remain compelling today. Its construction is not guided by decoration, but by a simple principle: good light should adapt to the person using it and the task at hand.
Each lamp is individually numbered and bears the TECNOLUMEN signet.
